Often material used for manufacturing furniture contains harmful chemicals that can adversely affect your health. Toxic effects of chemicals used for making furniture The furniture materials like Medium-density fireboard (MDF), particle board, fiberboard and plywood contain pieces of wood that are pressed and glued together using toxic adhesives containing formaldehyde. Formaldehyde, such as urea-formaldehyde, is used in making resins that are used in adhesives to manufacture furniture with composite wood products like MDF, particle board, fiberboard and plywood. In addition, formaldehyde is also used in some paints, lacquers and coatings used for polishing wood furniture. Continuous or over exposure to formaldehyde can cause leukemia and cancers of the nose, throat and sinuses. Most paints also contain
